A museum that shows wonderful paintings by a Belgian artist name Adrien Jean Le Mayeur. Paintings of which almost all are the painting of the artists wife Ni Polok and a few othe Balinese women.
The museum displays great variety of Le Mayeur’s paintings in both oil and water colors that captures the natural beauty of Bali.
In this museum there’s more then just paintings, even the household are ornament to be displayed such as an elegantly carved octagonal teakwood table, elaborately carved cupboards, vases, and many more, also several decorative plates and ceramics. This is because the museum is actually Le Mayeur’s home at first, but as time goes by and Le Mayeur become more famous as well as his house and all that’s in it high ranking authorities including former Indonesia President Soekarno, former Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and many more came to visit Le Mayeur. So in 1956 the Indonesian minister of education and culture visited Le Mayeur and was so impressed by Le Mayeur’s paintings that he asked Le Mayeur if he would consider allowing his home to be preserved as an official museum. And to this, he agreed.
When Le Mayeur agreed that his house became a museum, he began making more and more paintings to be displayed.
After Ni Polok died in 1985 the museum was taken by the Indonesian government and was neglected. Until 2003 when pleaded to the government that the museum should be restored by Mr.Ketut Naria, a team was sent to do so.
The museum been running again since then till now.
