More then 5 million square meter of Indonesian Islands are surrounded by water. For sure under water or sea tour is the main attraction of Indonesia. There is no doubt that Indonesia became a living place for hundreds even thousand under water creature and also cluster of beautiful colored corals. It is for sure there is lots of wonderful diving spot that divers would love to look at.
Even though a few while back there has been some travel warning from other countries that is a bit over react, numbers of international visitor still entering Indonesia on their vacation. But not all tourist know the diving spots, that’s why you can go where not so many have gone before.
Here are some of the best diving spots in Indonesia :
1. Bintan Island, Riau
This is probably the easiest island to reach from other countries out side Indonesia, it is one hour from the Singapore. Bintan has 18km white sandy beach and very rich in marine life with some diving location that you can enjoy.
Not far north of the beach there’s a small canyon 8meters deep with a flat bottom that is very suitable for you scuba diving beginners. Other unique spot you can find here is the ship wreck location where you can explore this old tanker ship that sunk years ago.
2. Kepulauan Seribu or Thousand Islands ( Not the sauce!
), Jakarta
This unique spot consist of hundreds of small island so to exaggerate a bit it called Thousand Islands is a must see diving spot for divers that live in Jakarta. From those islands, some are well known like Big Kotok Island (Pulau Kotok Besar), Small Kotok Island (Pulau Kotok Kecil), Coral hunchback (Karang Bongkok), Sepa Island (Pulau Sepa), Pantara Island (Pulau Pantara). Pulau Seribu is so easy to reach, you just have to rent a speed boat from the Marina or fish boats from one of many docks in Jakarta. It is around 1 or 2 hours journey from Jakarta. In some island there that is big enough there are some fasilities like resorts or villas, but you still have to rent boats to get to the small islands where the beautiful corals are.
3. Karimun Jawa(Java), Center of Java
Another part of Java Sea that can be said as heaven also for you divers. It is an island across the sea of Semarang, Center of Java called Karimun Jawa that contains 27 small islands surrounded by ocean filled with groups of blue acropora corals.
Here divers can also explore a ship wreck that used to be an ancient merchant ship that sink in 1955, as well as wonderful sea turtles that been hatched in the nature conservation park.
4. Pulau Derawan(Derawan Island), South of Kalimantan
About 50mil from Tanjung Radeb, the capital of Berau Provence, an area that contains few small islands.
This spot is filled with spectacular group of corals and also under sea cave for you adventurer. Derawan has more then 17 diving location with own unique attraction. Some of the famous spots here are Sangalaki Island, Kakaban Island and Maratua Island.
In Sangalaki Islands sea you can find animals like Eagle Ray Fish, and Tiger Sharks. You can even see Giant Green Turtle hatch in this island. And in Kakaban Island you can see a salt water pond that’s filled with non stinging jellyfish and gobies. While in Maratua, you can find big fishes such as Barracuda, Tuna, and Mackerel.
Tourists can even got the chance to see Hammer head Sharks and up to 8 species of Wale.
5. Nusa Penida, Bali
Nusa Penida Island is located in the east of Bali, a famous diving location to both local and international divers. This island is around 1 hour journey from Bali and has some group of corals that is in good shape.
For beginner divers there are some great spot on the beach east of the island. In the south of the island there are spots like Blue Corner, Nusa Lembongan and Gamat which are suitable for professional divers.
Sun Fish is often seen in Crystal Bay as well as Manta Fish in Manta Point.
